Remember how a few weeks ago I shared how stressed I was about working on a personal project, and then shared this gorgeous mood board? Well I’m super excited to be able to finally share the result of those long nights in front of the computer (because let’s face it, that’s when personal work actually happens!). Let me introduce you to my very own logo, for my very own design studio: Heylen Thienes Creative.
Last year I decided that designing under a different name just wasn’t working for me anymore, I loved Victorious Media and what it stood for, but it no longer aligned with my business goals, nor did it represent me as a person, the person designing great things for its clients, because I’m a one person show, not a big company and the name confused people. And then there was also the fact that everybody would constantly misspell it. I know Heylen Thienes isn’t necessarily easier to spell, but at least it is truly who I am, as a designer, businessperson, wife, daughter, sister and I love it!
The inspiration for the logo came not just from the mood boardI posted last month, but from a love for fashion magazines and serif fonts, they’re just so fun and classy. It was what got me started with graphic design in the first place and I wanted to honour it. I remember being a teenager and pasting magazine pages on my bedroom walls, they were just full of stunning photography and color. I wanted my logo to look like it could be a headline in one and give people a little tingle of excitement inside (or maybe it’s just me). What do you think?
I also updated my bio and portfolio with some of my most recent work and will continue to update it, as I also lay out the remaining pieces of my visual identity, such as new email address, business cards, letterhead and of course this blog – I have a big plans to make this home a little cozier.
I’m so excited about this next stage in business and life, and I invite you be a part of it, whether it’s by simply saying hi, telling me what you think of my new look, or by letting me work with you on an identity revamp (I’m currently booking clients for late June and July). Or if you’re another creative – I’m always looking for exciting collaboration opportunities!
I’d like to thank my husband, Jane Johnson, and Alicia Carvalho for the feedback, for being my cheerleaders and reminding me to focus and be patient! & Erin Anacker for the help with my amazing bio, for encouraging me to dig deeper.
